Keynotes, a news magazine for older Kansans and their families
and friends, serves more than 46,500 readers* in North Central Kansas
and surrounding areas. Published five times a year, Keynotes provides
seniors with news they can use and information they can trust.
The first issues of Keynotes were printed in 1982 on a mimeographed newsletter
format. The name “Keynotes” was selected from a “name
the newsletter” contest. The first newspaper formatted edition of
Keynotes was mailed to seniors in the region in October 1983. That edition
highlighted the first gathering of the Silver-Haired Legislature. Through
the years, Keynotes has received awards for writing and editorial excellence.
Older Kansans rely on each issue of Keynotes as a trusted source of timely
information about Medicare, Social Security, legal matters, and federal,
state and local issues. Keynotes also features stories about exemplary
older Kansans, area news, medical tips and tidbits, a great calendar of
regional and local events, puzzles, trivia—and more!
Keynotes is funded by voluntary contributions from readers, through advertising
support and by a grant from Title III-B of the Older Americans Act. While
Keynotes does not charge for subscriptions, we do ask for donations to
help “Keep Keynotes Coming!” Contributions are tax-deductible
and our mailing list is kept confidential—we won’t ever sell
or give readers’ personal information to another source.
The faithful assistance of volunteers from RSVP—and from throughout
the region—assures that each edition of Keynotes gets into the hands
of every older Kansan who wants it and who can benefit from our helpful
information.
A wide variety of advertisers support Keynotes—including assisted
living centers, banks, funeral homes and health centers. Advertising rates
start at $11.50 per column inch for the first run. Advertisers then receive
a discount for each subsequent run in a given year. Larger ads begin at
a lower base rate and receive the same discount for subsequent runs. Organizations
interested in a free media kit and rates card can contact the Agency at
any time.
