Answers for Older Kansans (AOK) - Informational Seminars

A host of informational seminars for caregivers, older Kansans and those living with disabilities is available. Please register to attend by calling us at 1-800-432-2703, or even easier, by completing the online registration form at the bottom of this page.

Our Upcoming Seminars include

Medicare Basics, Parts 1 and 2.

Learn about Medicare and get answers to your Medicare questions from Karen Mayse, an experienced certified Medicare benefits counselor.  Mayse has provided unbiased information as a SHICK Counselor (Senior Health Insurance Counselors for Kansas) for more than 10 years and helps people when they are considering Medicare options. In a series of two sessions, Karen will help people new to Medicare get the information they need to successfully enroll in Medicare. Medicare Basics Part 1 will cover Medicare’s alphabet soup, the steps to enrollment, and coordination with Medicare and employer insurance. Medicare Basics Part 2 will move into Medicare Savings Plans, covering gaps in Medicare, the Extra Help program, and more. Registrants are encouraged to attend both seminars to get the complete Medicare picture. Spaces are limited, and advance registration by at least the day before a session is required.

Legal Seminars with Kansas Legal Services

Each month as part of our AOK seminars, we do a seminar on a different legal topic related to Older Kansans with Kansas Legal Services. Advance registration is required for Zoom sessions.  At this time, registration is not required for “in-person” seminars.

Kansas Legal Services will be presenting a series of Zoom seminars on a variety of legal topics that are important for seniors and Kansans living with disabilities. Watch our website, social media, field announcements and the Caregiver Newsletter for more information.

“Caregiver Connection”

Join us once a month via zoom, or in-person at specific locations, for “Caregiver Connection”: A place where caregivers can come together to share experiences, challenges, and success in the challenging, yet rewarding role as a caregiver. First Lady Rosalynn Carter, and Founder of the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers, has stated “There are only four kinds of people in the world – those that have been caregivers, those that are caregivers, those who will be caregivers, and those who will need caregivers.” Please join us to lighten the weight you may be carrying through your caregiving journey, or come to help lighten someone else’s.

We know you are in the midst of so much and you don’t think you have time to come, which is exactly why you should attend!

Typically scheduled for the 2nd Wednesday of each month. “Caregiver Connection” is a way for individuals to connect over the common, but diverse experience of Caregiving. Join us if you are a caregiver from afar, a live-in caregiver, a professional caregiver. If you would like information on future topics and our Caregiver Newsletter, please let us know.

All seminars are free to attend.  If you would like to make a contribution to help cover costs and support this educational program, your donations are gladly welcomed.

Most seminars are being hosted online using Zoom. Detailed instructions will be sent to those who register. Check here for Tips on Using Zoom
